the person behind.
Klara Gmeinbauer is exploring visual and auditive media as an Austrian freelancer, media artist, and postgraduate while undertaking her MA in Film Studies at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, UvA (NED).
Having grown up in a very nature exposed area, Mondsee/Salzburg (AUT), has taught her appreciation for the outdoors. It also has shaped her artistic view and subjects toward ecological aesthetics and physical movement, as well as cultural explorations from her travels and places of living.
A very striking and initiative moment for Klara’s work has been her gap year journey (2019-2020) where she has been volunteering as a teacher in the Nepalese Himalaya and later on also assisting rowing clubs in Melbourne (AUS) and Hanoi (VN).
ACADEMiA.
From fall 2020 to spring 2023 she has been completing her BA in Media and Culture (UvA) whith specialization in general media and (non-)fiction film studies. During her Erasmus Exchange at the Universitetet i Oslo (NOR) in 2022, Klara mostly has been focusing on environmental (digital) humanities. A research field she has continued follwing with her BA thesis:
Expressions of Eco-Cinema: finding the micro in the macro through place and land in Radji and Aasivissuit.
While conducting a textual analysis of Radji and Aasivissuit, two ethno-environmentalist expressions of eco-cinema, the thesis has been exploring the documentaries’ emphasis on land and place. In addition, their function to preserve Indigenous ecological knowledge and land within Norway, Sweden, and Greenland.
